This website is for users of McGregor. You can log in to Webmail or CrushFTP with your credentials to access your email and files.

We’re planning to move authentication to MariaDB. This will let you change your password yourself and unify logins for file and mail services. Matthias is also considering bringing back calendar and address book features.

A bit of history: McGregor started life as a Macintosh 512, then received a Plus upgrade, 4 MB of RAM, and a speedy 250 MB hard disk. That’s when he began to serve — first faxes, then files and Intermail, later upgraded to QuickMail and Eudora.

The role of file server was soon taken over by McGregor II, a Macintosh II fx with two 1 GB hard disks, working as an AppleTalk and Ethernet router and running the first AppleServer app. Later, McGregor I retired (after a short adventure with a 16 MHz turbo upgrade that the power supply didn’t survive).

McGregor II was succeeded by a Quadra running WebStar, followed by two more Quadras. The last was replaced by a Mac mini, McGregor VI, which continued serving with AppleServer, Dovecot, Postfix, Amavis, and SpamAssassin. After tighter security requirements and upgrades, Apache and AppleServer began to struggle, so everything was installed individually. Thanks to MacPorts and some patching, McGregor now runs Nginx, Postfix, Dovecot, and Rspamd. Rspamd is not only more effective, it’s much gentler on memory than SpamAssassin ever was. When this upgrade phase finishes, McGregor might even switch to Linux.
